I think that the need of monitoring will always be there. It is to what extent that people should be monitored. That is what the bosses need to ask themselves?
I think that bosses shouldn't be allowed to interfere too much in the lives of their sub-ordinates. Being a boss doesn't entitle you to have a master-slave relationship with your employees. My question to such bosses is why is there a need to do such a deep monitoring? The reason is the lack of trust. Bosses who don't trust their employees are like the nagging wives who try to bring anything out of little faults of their husbands. Bosses who dont give their employees an easy time expect their employees to lie to them. Now why would an employee lie to his boss to get a couple of days off. The reason is that he probably wont get such a leave and may be a long lecture on how to work hard and bla bla would be next.
Employees should be given more holidays per year or atleast a facility to go on a holiday on a short notice for grave reasons. Relaxation on the work place is important to gain more benefits and trust from the employees. Employees should be taken in confidence and allowed to have a right of speech when it comes to their meeting with the boses. This way employees would feel that they will be better off with their bosses knowing the problem rather than lying and then getting caught.
On the other hand, the employees should be aware that they have to take some responsibilties for the tasks and targets they have to achieve. And that running away from them will only pave way for their loss of job. The employees' behavior towards the boss should also be confidence gaining rather than acting in a way that leads the boss into spying on them.
Plus, i think that a boss should take it easy, after all it is just an office and not an intelligence agency working for the security of the country!
