The Story of Stuff

While i was listening to Annie Leonard's presentation, I was thinking that we already know a lot of the stuff she told us about the whole supply and consumption chain. The question is what she achieved by this? Well she achieved atleast the very impossible goal of making listeners realize about the vicious circle of self self-destruction they have become a part of. I think that is what needs to be done i-e making people realize of the crimes they are comitting.

I know that every person in every stage of this whole process is responsible but the consumers are more to be blamed. What makes a franchize of branded clothes successful? The answer is WE. We are being made a fool out of our ownselves. We believe that what George Clooney or Jessica Alba is wearing is cool without actually giving a damn for the animals that were skinned alive or the people who have suffered ill-health while making those 'cool' products.

The solution is in the hands of the consumers and consumers only. The governments are too much polluted by these corporations. You vote for anybody but he/she is no different. The same faces are always behind a different face. Asking for a factory worker in Africa or Asia who hardly earns 5 dollars per day to leave and quit his job will not be realistic at all. So the 'Soldiers of the Golden Arrow' have to revolt against their 'Generals'. However, changing and rejecting the corrupted governments contimnously through votes is a very powerful weapon. But that could be a very long process indeed. The most readily changeable variable is the consumers.

Now some months ago the media especially the internet was floated with videos of animals being skinned alive for making the all 'cool' garments. People saw them, were shocked but as soon as they went to the shops....huh.
