What is the meaning of education? If we look back in time, being educated meant to be enlightened with a strong set of social skills and knowledge that allowed you to put forward your ideas. All the famous philosophers, sociologists and thinkers have given us knowledge. Knowledge that contained reasoning, belief, character and expectations, was a primary source of social debate and development. This sort of development was crucial to the forming of modern societies and welfare states.
Now let us come to the modern day era. Education is directly connected to having a carrier. This has resulted in a huge loss of will and initiative that people are willing to take for such debates. Nowadays, we are only fed with information and numbers. The information that only restricts us in a limited paradigm of thought which has only taught us to engineer our surrounding that fit our needs.
Partly to be blamed for this is the fast paced lifestyle and economies that we have to encounter. No university education means no good job and subsequently an ‘improper’ lifestyle. This is one reason that ethics and moral are the last subjects that we would like to discuss or think. We are pushed to follow the majority rather than the brain we have in our head. In doing so, we completely ignore a historical sociological fact that the decision about right and wrong can never be made on numbers. This is in stark connection to what I predicted in my previous blog post that we are heading towards a direction where we will have to chose rather than decide on the basis of our own knowledge.
